Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve: A Natural Haven in Eastern Nepal
The Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is one of Nepal’s most significant protected areas, spanning an area of 176 square kilometers across the Sunsari, Saptari, and Udayapur districts in the eastern Terai region. This pristine reserve, established in 1976, is a UNESCO-recognized wetland of international importance, drawing nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers from across the globe.
The reserve is defined by its vast expanse of reed beds, freshwater marshes, and the ever-changing floodplains of the Kosi River, Nepal’s largest river system. Situated at elevations ranging from 75 to 81 meters above sea level, the landscape creates a unique habitat that supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
